Paris: Women’s doubles top seeds Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis crashed out of the French Open on Wednesday after losing to seventh-seeded pair of Bethanie Mattek-Sands States and Lucie Safarova in the quarter-finals.

The Indo-Swiss pair lost 7-5, 6-2 to the Czech-American duo on Wednesday.

Mirza and Hingis fought evenly with their opponents in the first set but lost steam at the most crucial juncture to fall behind.

Mattek-Sands and Safarova closed out the match comfortably in the second.

They claimed 70 points in total in the match compared to 61 for Mirza and Hingis.
