Fatma and Mariam clinch top honours in tennis

Dubai: Fatma and Mariam Behroozian picked up the girls' under-12 and under-16 titles, respectively, at the recently-concluded Al Wasl Junior Tennis Series.

Fatma waged a grim battle over three sets before getting the better of Honor Nichol 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 in the girls' under-12 clash.

Maryam, a member of the UAE national squad, later defeated Concon Bulilan 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to win the girls' under-16 crown.

The boys' under-16 title went to Julian Monty, who had a swift and clinical 6-1, 6-1 victory against Marwan Sidqi.

Kirk Rebuyas was also stretched over three sets before beating Marwan Al Qaisi 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 for the boys' under-14 title.

The boys' under-12 title went to Paul Chase with a hard-fought 6-4, 7-6 win over Majid Bushaqar.

In an all-UAE final in the boys' under-10 category, Fahad Al Janahi beat Abdullah Ahli 6-2, 7-5.

The junior series is sponsored by Al Yacoub Group and Sun and Sands Sports.

The competition attracted 91 entries in 6 age-group categories.

Shaikha Shamsa al Maktoum, head of the ladies' sports section at Al Wasl Club, gave away the prizes .
