Rashid Hospital win UAE Exchange Cup

Dubai: James Yao scored 13 points to lead Rashid Hospital to a 48-44 win over MedCare Hospital and bring home the 2012 UAE Exchange Cup of the Ambulance and Hospital League (AHBL) at the Sala Al Deen sports hall in Al Mamzar last Friday.

Yao, who was the tournament MVP, hauled down six rebounds and issued five assists during the nip and tuck match.

Rashid led MedCare 17-13 in the first quarter.

MedCare tried to step on the gas in the second quarter, outscoring the eventual champions by just one point. Rashid led 27-24 at half-time. In the third quarter, the champions maintained the tempo for a 38-33 lead despite Marlon de Guzman leading the charge for MedCare with 15 points, along with six rebounds and an assist.

Third spot

Earlier, American Hospital squeezed past International Modern Hospital to clinch the third spot in the eight-team competition with a 59-57 win.

The AHBL commenced in the second week of January. It was organised to promote camaraderie among health care providers.
