Dubai: The Tristar Half Marathon received an overwhelming response during registration for its event to be held later this month.

The event, which will be held at Nad Al Sheba and Meydan District in Dubai, on February 23, has already exceeded 1,000 registrations.

Arundhan Alphones, Tristar product head for road transport in the UAE and one of the core team organisers, said that registration through Premier Online and within the company has already crossed the target.

“We are happy that we have crossed the intended target we had set up during the launch of the event on January 16,” he said.

Responding to the overwhelming enthusiasm of the running community in the UAE, the company has decided to add 100 more spots to accommodate participants in the 21.1km and 10km long distances. Overall winners in these two races will receive cash prizes.

“We have participants from 51 countries who are residents of the UAE. The oldest is 71 years old who registered in the 5km race. Almost 300 and 200 have signed up for the 21.1km and 10km long distances, respectively,” said Alphonse who is a runner himself.

The Tristar officer placed third in the over-50 age category of the 10Km distance at last year’s Tristar Community Run. This year the company added the 21.1km race, thus calling the event Tristar Half Marathon.
