The racing season is nearly upon us, and FG1000 is making itself heard

A few weeks ago, the Automobile and Touring Club (ATC) launched the new motorsport season. I was there, and needless to say I felt something of a buzz. Nothing gets the pulse racing like motor racing.
Gulfsport’s Formula Gulf 1000 championship (FG1000) is the UAE’s only single-seater racing series, but don’t think that they’re just coasting along and just being contented with that accolade.
To up the profile of motorsport in the region, FG1000 has a partnership with Campos, which you motorsport buffs may know is a very successful Spanish racing outfit owned by Adrian Campos, a former Formula 1 driver. Campos run cars in Formula 4, Formula 3, GP3, and GP2, and these guys really know what they’re doing.
Young racing drivers here in the Middle East may be geographically far from Europe – which remains the hub of competitive motorsport – so the partnership between Campos and Gulfsport brings Europe to the Middle East.
It’s a great idea. The FG drivers are given simulator experience and professional counsel which aims to prepare them for a career in the cockpit. It doesn’t stop there, either. The FG1000 champion is given a Formula 3 test with Campos in Europe – a pretty awesome prize by all accounts.
But still, this blog isn’t all about what racing drivers should do. Motorsport is for people to watch, too. If you’re at a loose end one weekend over the winter, why not visit a race or two? Have a look at this cool video to get yourself in the mood for the new racing season.
