Al Ain show intent in Superleague
Dubai: President of the Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE Mohammad Bin Sulayem is confident Al Ain can build on their promising start to the inaugural season of Superleague Formula motor racing aftre they battling teams backed by some of world's top soccer clubs.
Austrian driver Andreas Zuber took sixth place at the wheel of the Al Ain single seater in the first two races that marked the launch of Superleague Formula at Donington Park, England on Sunday.
After Zuber was pushed off the circuit on the first lap of race two, Al Ain finished the opening weekend lying eleventh, ahead of a cluster of top football clubs including last season's Uefa Cup runners-up Rangers, Olympiacos of Greece, Turkish club Galatasaray, Corinthians from Brazil, Anderlecht of Belgium and Italian giants AC Milan.
"It was a good start for Al Ain, and they now have a platform to build on," said Sulayem, who is acting as an expert advisor to the UAE Club.
Superleague Formula leading positions after round one: Beijing Gouan FC; Tottenham Hotspur; Liverpool; Sevilla; AS Roma; PSV Eindhoven; Flamengo; FC Basel; FC Porto; Borussia Dortmund; Al-Ain; Rangers FC.
