15th Jimmy George Memorial tournament kicks off with six teams

Abu Dhabi: Lifeline Hospital made a winning debut in the 15th Kerala Social Centre-UAE Xchange Jimmy George Memorial volleyball tournament with a 25-8, 25-17 win over Sharjah's Floral Trading here on Thursday night.

The Abu Dhabi-based Lifeline Hospital fielded a couple of Indian internationals with the lanky Tom Joseph and Vibin George excelling in both attack and defence against the Sharjah team.

The six-team event got off to a rousing start on Wednesday with Dubai Duty Free registering a 25-21, 23-25, 25-22, 25-20 win over Romana Water.

Participants

The six teams in the event are defending champions Emirates Aluminum (Emal) Abu Dhabi, Dubai-Duty Free, Romana Water in Pool A while NMC Hospital, Floral Trading, Sharjah, Lifeline Hospital comprise Pool B.

The tournament being played at the KSC courts is held in memory of volleyball great Jimmy George.

George, who played here in the UAE, was tragically getting killed in a car crash in Italy.
