Typhoon Tracy named racehorse of the year

Australia: Typhoon Tracy, a four-time Group One winner across two states, was on Sunday night named the undisputed Australian Racehorse of the Year at the annual Australian Racehorse of the Year and Hall of Fame Awards.

The Peter Moody-trained mare upstaged three-year-old sprinter Starspangledbanner who was judged on his Australian performances only, to win the title.

Starspangledbanner, who is currently based in Ireland, claimed two awards including the Champion Sprinter Award and the Champion Australian-Bred International Award which he won comfortably.

Faint Perfume was named champion three-year-old filly and So You Think crowned champion three-year-old Colt or Gelding.

Legendary trainer Bart Cummings was honoured on the night as the Champion Group 1 Trainer with seven victories throughout the 2009-10 season.

Nash Rawiller earlier took home the Champion Group 1 Jockey trophy for the second consecutive season with nine wins.

The champion Two-Year-Old title went to Victorian filly Crystal Lily.

Mark Kavanagh's Shocking was named Champion Stayer for wins in the Melbourne Cup and Group 3 Lexus Stakes.

Triple Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva was inducted into the Hall of Fame, whilst seven new inductees were welcomed.
