Teenager sets new record with four-under round on Fire Course
Dubai: Sana Tufail shot a magnificent 68 in the BMW Jumeirah Ladies Amateur Open at the Jumeirah Golf Estates to win by eight shots.
Tufail did well to fight back from being two-over after four holes and trailing Michelle Walsh-Hall — the recently crowned Jumeirah Ladies Club Champion — by one shot. Birdies on seven and nine had her back at level par on the turn and both leading players bogeyed the 10th.
The 17-year-old then hit three consecutive birdies and a remarkable five over the last eight holes, including narrowly missing an albatross on the 18th to finish with the ladies’ amateur record of four-under on the par 72 Fire Course. Tufail, from BSAK Abu Dhabi, notched her third consecutive ladies open title at Jumeirah.
Walsh-Hall and Kim Chiang of Arabian Ranches shared second place on 76 gross.
