Dubai: Junior Star Clinics will be held on the sidelines of all forthcoming Mena Golf Tour events, it was announced on Wednesday.

With regional grassroots development at the heart of the Mena Golf Tour’s mission, the clinics — run by Mena Tour professionals — will place an emphasis on core skills and game awareness in an environment that cultivates camaraderie and healthy living.

“Let’s play golf together in a fun and exciting atmosphere is our message,” said Mohammad Juma Bu Amim, chairman of the Mena Golf Tour. “We are pleased to have the support of all host clubs and hope the youngsters will revel in the whole experience while attending the clinics.

“We have to take the game to the grassroots level if we aim to produce champions of the future, and for that to happen, it’s important that we channel our resources and energies in a professional manner.

“Introducing youngsters to the game is one thing, the more important aspect is to try and retain them.”

The nine-stage 2014 Mena Golf Tour — which teed off with two events in Morocco in March — resumes with the Dubai Creek Open from September 15, with the first clinic to be held from 4pm.

Similar sessions will be held one the sidelines of the remaining six events of the season.

The Mena Golf Tour was created in 2011 to provide a stepping stone between grassroots and professional golf locally.
