Dubai-based Alison Muirhead in New York for Aramco Team Series

Scotland’s Alison Muirhead, the Dubai-based golfer on the Ladies European Tour and representing Jumeirah Golf Estates, has made her way to New York to take part in the third of the Aramco Team Series, which begins on Thursday.

The 54-hole tournament has a team event involving an $800,000 purse and an individual event involving a $200,000 purse, is being hosted at the Glen Oaks Club, New York, on the North Shore of Long Island, formerly host venue for The Northern Trust, the first round of the PGA Tour FedEx Cup Play-offs, and is often referred to as ‘The Augusta of the North.’

This week is the third of four global Aramco Team Series events — the first held in London, the second at Sotogrande, Spain and the final double header event: the $1 million Aramco Saudi Ladies International Presented by Public Investment Fund and the $1 million Aramco Team Series — Jeddah, both held at Royal Greens GC in Saudi Arabia over the two consecutive weeks immediately following the Dubai Moonlight Classic presented by EGA held over the Faldo Course at Emirates Golf Club, Dubai, October 27-29.

The 84-player field this week boasts a strong US presence including world No. 1 Nelly Korda and her sister, No. 19 Jessica, Lexi Thompson, Lizette Salas, Danielle Kang, Natalie Gulbis, Alison Lee, Lindsey Weaver, Cheyenne Woods, Angel Yin and from outside the US, the likes of Emily Kristine Pedersen (Denmark), Charley Hull (England), Anna Norquist (Sweden), Pauline Bouchard (France), Catriona Matthew (Scotland), Caroline Masson (Germany), Bronte Law (England), Gabriela Ruffels (Australia), Sophia Popov (Germany), Anne Van Dam (Netherlands), Meghan MacLaren (England) and Aditi Ashok (India).

Muirhead came in at No. 70 in the entry list as a result of finishing third in the 2019 LET Final Qualifying School. She lies 77th in the 2021 Race to Costa Del Sol having played in 12 events.

Rolex World Ranking Points as well as points for the LET’s Race to Costa del Sol Order of Merit are up for grabs as the 2021 LET season comes to its conclusion.

There is a draft system to pick the teams this week, 36 selected captains will pick their first player and a third professional will be randomly drawn. The fourth player completing the team is an invited amateur. The format is the best two scores from the team of four on each hole with the three professionals completing their full card for the individual event.
