Emirates Golf Club reach final of Scratch Invitational League

Dubai: Emirates Golf Club halved against the Dubai Country Club/Sharjah Wanderers Golf Club Team 2 - 2 in Match Day 12 at Sharjah Wanderers Golf Club on Friday.

This final match of the 12 first-round fixtures of the 2007 - 08 Invitational Scratch Golf League sees Emirates Golf Club progress to the final four semifinals and finals.

Bonus point

Three of the four fourball matches went to the last green with EGC losing two by 1 hole and winning the other by two holes.

The top match was the only one not to go the distance with the EGC pairing of Khalid Yousuf and Ewan Cameron beating Alan Bushnell and Stuart Megson by 3 & 2. This drawn match gives both EGC and DCC / SWGC 3 points each - two points for the match wins and an additional bonus point for the overall half. This leaves the final standing of League A with Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club winning with 15 points and runners-up EGC with 10 points. These two teams qualify for the next stage with League A winners playing League B runners-up and League B winners playing League A runners-up.

Bob Driver, League Co-ordinator, commented on the result, "Congratulations to Emirates Golf Club on going through against the home specialists on sand of DCC/SWGC. EGC will now play Abu Dhabi Golf Club and League A champions Dubai Creek playing either The Montgomerie, Dubai or Al Ghazal Golf Club. This last tied runners-up spot from League B will be decided by a Scratch Fourball Match between two players from either side over 18 holes on a neutral venue."
