Spanish fans rejoice in nation's Euro 2008 win

Vienna: Jubilant Spanish fans celebrated their team's first Euro 2008 victory after 44 years by partying early into Monday morning.

Crowds of fans rallied on the streets of Vienna and in Madrid, letting off fireworks and blaring car horns to mark their country's win.

Firefighters had to douse the rallying fans with water in Madrid as temperatures soared past 30 C.

Spanish King Juan Carlos commended the team's triumph saying it was long way coming but at the end it was worth it.

“We suffered, but in the end, it was worth the pain," he said.

Around 70,000 football fans packed into the city centre to watch the match on giant screens, while 50,000 others filled the stadium.

As the final whistle blew, Spain's supporters erupted into resounding pandemonium, ecstatic over their nation's win.

Spain clinched the Euro 2008 title over Germany by scoring the only goal in the first half of the grueling final, bringing an end to their four decade stalemate.
