Al Nassr star faces tricky opener at Al Taawoun as 2025-26 fixtures released
Dubai: Cristiano Ronaldo’s quest for more silverware will be in the spotlight from the first whistle of the new Roshn Saudi League (RSL) season, with Al Nassr handed a tough away trip to Al Taawoun in their opening match on August 28.
The Portuguese superstar, who recently signed a new contract to extend his stay in Riyadh, will lead Jorge Jesus’ side into what promises to be one of the most competitive campaigns in the league’s history. Al Nassr finished last season without the title but with Ronaldo still delivering goals at a relentless pace, their ambition remains clear: wrest the crown from Al Ittihad and hold off the growing challenge from Al Hilal and newly strengthened Al Ahli.
Ronaldo’s first month could set the tone for the season. After their opener against last season’s surprise package Al Taawoun, Al Nassr travel to Jeddah to face defending champions Al Ittihad on Matchday 4. That clash will reunite Ronaldo with some of his fiercest domestic rivals in what is always one of the league’s most watched fixtures globally.
The challenge doesn’t stop there — by Matchday 8, Ronaldo and Al Nassr will host ambitious newcomers Neom, who arrive in the top flight with big-name signings including Alexandre Lacazette. A gruelling winter run from Matchdays 13 to 16 will pit the Riyadh side against Al Ahli, Al Qadsiah, Al Hilal in the Capital Derby, and Al Shabab in successive games.
The Saudi Pro League’s growing reputation is reflected in a fixture list that offers no gentle introductions for the country’s biggest clubs.
Al Ittihad, chasing a third straight title, begin away to Al Okhdood before hosting Al Fateh and then Al Nassr. Their early calendar also includes a Matchday 6 showdown with Al Hilal in Jeddah.
Al Hilal, fresh from their Fifa Club World Cup quarter-final run, open against Al Riyadh in a city derby, followed by meetings with Al Qadsiah and Al Ahli before their first Clasico of the season against Al Ittihad.
Al Ahli, the reigning AFC Champions League winners, welcome promoted Neom first before a heavyweight clash with Al Hilal on Matchday 3 and the Sea Derby against Al Ittihad on Matchday 8.
For the league’s global audience, Ronaldo’s presence remains a magnetic draw. Since arriving in Saudi Arabia, the 40-year-old has been more than just a marquee signing — his professionalism, fitness, and relentless scoring have set new standards in the RSL.
With the competition level rising, the 2025-26 campaign could be one of the most challenging of his career. But for Ronaldo, a man who has built his legacy on thriving under pressure, the chance to lift Al Nassr to the summit again is the perfect motivation.
