Dubai: Al Ahli's Iranian striker Farhad Majidi hopes he can continue with his scoring spree in the season-ending clash against Bani Yas next week.
Majidi scored in the 90th minute against Al Wasl last week to throw the UAE First Division League wide open.
His last-gasp goal gave Al Ahli three crucial points and tied them on points at the top of the standings with defending champions Al Wahda, who lost to arch-rivals Al Ain by a solitary goal.
"I hope I can score again and help Al Ahli win the three points that are on offer against Bani Yas on Sunday," Majidi told Gulf News after attending a training session on Tuesday night.
"My job is to score and that is exactly why I am with Al Ahli till the end of the season," he said.
Majidi, reportedly interested in making a move to Al Nasr next year, has been playing a crucial role in the Al Ahli line-up, along with the UAE national team striker, Faisal Khalil.
After coming close to scoring on several occasions against his former club, Al Wasl, last week, Majidi nodded in past an out-of-position defence in the very last minute of the match against Al Wasl.
"My goal is to score every time I am on the ground," Majidi said. Although next Sunday's match offers one of the toughest tests for his striking skills, Majidi is hopeful he will be able to deliver the League crown to the men in red after a 26-year wait.
The Iranian further said: "I'd like to see this match as any other. So the key would be to stay focused and calm during the game."
He is also aware of the fact that Bani Yas cannot be underestimated. "There are no easy matches. And this one against Bani Yas, in particular, can be very tricky, though they lie at the bottom of the standings," Majidi said.
"But it also happens to be the most important match of the season for us and we cannot afford to slip in any way," he added.
A win will give Al Ahli three points and a total of 47. But their fate will depend on the outcome of the Sharjah-Al Wahda clash.
"I don't want to think about the result at the moment. I want to focus on the game against Bani Yas and think about how I can contribute to the success of my club," Majidi stated.
