Dubai: The Customer Care team outlasted the Technology team 2-1 to successfully defend their du inter-department football crown for the Ramadan Cup that concluded at the Al Raya High School's indoor hall in the Al Wasl area here late on Tuesday.
Both teams were tied goalless at the end of regulation period in this seven-a-side tournament that is held annually during Ramadan.
Arif Al Obathani and Sabir Omar scored for the winning Customer Care team, while Ahmad Al Awadi was the only one to hit the target for the Technology team during the tie-breaker.
Hat-trick
Earlier, Abdullah Sultan scored a hat-trick, Nasser Khamis secured a brace and star striker Adnan Talyani got one goal in the 1990 UAE World Cup team's 7-5 win against an invitational du team in an exhibition match.
The du team included various members of the company's senior management while the UAE's 1990 squad consisted of players like Adnan Al Talyani, Mohsin Mussabah, Fahad Khamis, Khalid Esmail, Abdullah Sultan, Nasser Khamis, Abd Al Rahman Mohammad and Bader Hareb.
"We are privileged to have hosted the stars of the UAE's 1990 national football team at our second Ramadan Cup Football Tournament closing ceremony, and to have had the unique opportunity to pay tribute to their efforts and contribution to the nation's football history," said Fahad Al Hassawi, Chief Human Resources and Shared Services Officer, du.
The stars of the 1990 UAE World Cup squad were invited to the Ramadan Cup final in acknowledgement of the nation's sporting achievements this Ramadan.
"It has been a very exciting tournament, and the dazzling grand finale was truly lit up with the presence of these football stars," he added.
Osman Sultan, CEO of du handed over the trophy to the winning Customer Care team captain in the presence of Farid Faraidooni, du's Chief Commercial Officer.
