Dubai: The UAE clubs in the GCC Champions League achieved different results on Monday.
While Al Jazira topped their group and qualified for the semifinals, Sharjah finished at the bottom of Group C and failed to make it to the semifinals.
Group A toppers Al Jazira will meet Group C winners Al Nasr (Oman) in the semifinals on November 22 and 26 in a home and away matches. Group B toppers Al Hilal (Saudi Arabia) will clash with their compatriots Al Ettifaq (Group A second place) on the same days. The final will be held on December 24 and 31st in a home and away basis.
Al Hilal topped Group B with nine points. They won all three matches in Group B. They beat Muscat of Oman 1-0, Om Sallal of Qatar 2-1 and Kuwait club 2-0.
Mubarak's goal
In Group C, Sharjah couldn't score a win in their three matches. They lost to Oman's Al Nasr 4-1 and drew twice - against Al Muharraq of Bahrain 2-2 and against hosts Al Arabi of Kuwait 1-1. They bagged only two points to finish at the bottom of the group.
Despite Nawaf Mubarak's goal in the 30th minute, Sharjah suffered in their last match against Al Arabi.
Esmail Abdullatif levelled for the hosts with a fine header to the left of Sharjah custodian Mahmoud Al Mass in the 75th minute.
The referee made things worse for Sharjah when he issued marching orders to Khamis Ahmad in the 67th minute and Iranian Masaoud Shojai in the 81st minute.
Sharjah's defenders and goalkeeper resisted most of the Al Arabi attacks and Al Mass saved several sitters which could have made the Kuwaiti club winners by a big margin.
