Dubai: Less than three weeks before the much-awaited fight of the century between undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao, it seems Mayweather is dealing with a few aches and pains.

It has been reported that the American "has a split lip and injured hands" sustained during his training for the May 2 fight in Las Vegas.

“I know because I saw them,” said David Mayo, who broke the news in his column on MLive.com.

Mayo said Mayweather had sparring sessions despite the painful injuries on his lip and knuckles, which he said was later treated with ointment.

"Let me confirm that Mayweather indeed has been coping with hand injuries,” Mayo wrote in his column.

“He has some skin marks on his knuckles. They require antiseptic. He even sometimes blows on them to relieve the stinging after the medication is applied, lest anyone think it is impossible to hurt boxing's pound-for-pound king."

Mayo did say that concerns that the injuries will seriously hamper Mayweather’s preparations were overblown.
