Dubai women's dragon boating team wins gold

Dubai: A fired-up Dubai-based dragon boating team washed away the opposition to win gold in the women's event at the first leg of the European Cup held in Gyor, Hungary, from May 31 to June 1.

Dubai Flying Dragons (DFD) travelled to Hungary to compete in the 5th Győr Dragon Boat Festival in preparation for the 6th Club Crew World Championships, which will take place later this August in Penang, Malaysia.

In the European regatta competition was fierce with 85 teams battling it out on the water for gold. In what was a hotly contested women's race, team DFD exercised their paddling prowess against the Hungarian opposition to emerge as the winners.

In the mixed event, the DFD team narrowly missed out on repeating the women's superb performance, but in the end had to settle for silver in their paddling showdown.

The team has now set their sights on achieving a medal at the 6th Club Crew World Championships.
