Melbourne: World No. 1 Jason Day has hit back at critics of golfers who have elected to skip the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Rio Games chief Carlos Nuzman suggested Zika claims are a smokescreen and instead withdrawals are because “there’s no prize money”.

“I mean, we’ve got enough money, you know what I mean,” Day told the Australian Associated Press.

“If it was Tokyo this year, I’d be there in a heartbeat.”

Camilo Villegas of Colombia has become the 21st golfer to pull out of the Olympics. The reason he gave is that he is trying to keep his job on the PGA Tour.
