Fans go into a frenzy after viral frame from London charity event
Dubai: Newly appointed Indian Test captain Shubman Gill is enjoying a dream run, scoring two centuries and a double hundred in the ongoing series against England. But even as his cricket makes headlines, rumours of a romance with Sara Tendulkar, daughter of Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar, have resurfaced.
Gill, however, recently addressed the speculation head-on.
“There have been so many rumours linking me with people I’ve never even met. Right now, I’m focused on my professional career. We’re on the road 300 days a year, so there’s hardly any time to invest in a relationship,” Gill told The Hollywood Reporter India.
Yet, one photo was all it took to reignite chatter online.
The image—captured during a charity dinner in London hosted by Yuvraj Singh—shows Gill smiling while seated near Sara. Although they weren’t seen interacting or posing together, the viral frame triggered a fresh wave of speculation across social media.
Held earlier this week, the dinner was part of a YouWeCan Foundation fundraiser, with key guests including Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Kevin Pietersen, as well as the full Indian Test squad.
Sara shared glimpses of the event on Instagram, but none featuring Gill directly. Still, fan pages and meme accounts quickly jumped on the photo.
Rumours about the duo first surfaced a few years ago, fuelled by social media exchanges. At one point, they reportedly unfollowed each other, cooling the speculation. Earlier this year, Gill confirmed he had been single for over three years.
Whether the pair are just friends or more, the internet remains hooked. As one fan put it: “In the age of viral moments, all it takes is one candid frame.”
After the event, Yuvraj posted a heartfelt message on X, thanking friends, teammates and cricketing legends for supporting his cause.
“I’ve lived through cancer. I know what hope looks like—and it looks a lot like all of you,” he wrote.
Speaking to ANI, Yuvraj praised Gill’s leadership and record-breaking 269 at Edgbaston, calling him “a captain to watch.” He also lauded Akash Deep—who took a 10-wicket haul while his sister battles cancer—calling it “a special moment.”
