Dubai: A string of all-round performances and a couple of good batting knocks were the highlights of the Mobil Cup matches played over the weekend in the tournament conducted by Dubai Cricket Council and sponsored by EMA Lubricants.
ECB all-rounder Zahid Shah shone for Belhasa Driving Institute scoring 57 runs against Rapco Konkan to help his side to 209 runs with Mukhtar being the other batsman to shine with a knock of 59 runs.
Zahid then bowled a good spell of medium pace bowling to break the back of the Rapco Konkan batting bagging four wickets for 45 runs to help Belhasa to a 24-run win.
Tiger Cricket Club skipper Mohammad Shahid played the pivotal role for his team scoring 58 runs in 38 balls with eight fours and a six and then prised out two wickets to help Tiger to a 63-run win over Evergreen.
Faraz with 76 runs in 54 balls, Shafqat with a quick 51 in 23 balls and Fayyaz with four wickets for just 22 runs were the others to shine for Tiger Cricket Club.
Mega Carpets did well to beat Lanka Colts by seven wickets as Nadeem performed both with the bat and ball. He first picked up three wickets and then played a match-winning unbeaten knock of 55 runs with the help of four boundaries.
Abdullah partnered him well with a quick knock of 43 runs in 39 balls with two sixes and an equal number of fours. Seasoned campaigner Mohammad Banaras made short work of Maklai bowlers striking them for 15 boundaries and a six to top-score with 83 off 49 balls and help his team Al Futtaim Exel beat Maklai by eight wickets. Shahid Ali was not out on 50. Asim Kalim of Emirates Islamic Bank led the bankers with a bright knock of 71 runs which included 9 fours and two sixes. He was instrumental in his side cruising past Khatri Cricket Club's of 112 runs with nine wickets in hand.
Meanwhile, Players' XI, Mahek CC and Eurocon Alubond scored convincing victories in the 1st Paramount cricket tournament which is being played at Umm Al Quwain under the auspicious of Sharjah Cricket Council.
Al Futtaim Excel also beat their arch-rivals Solanki Construction in 1st Alubond cricket tournament for corporate companies by 43 runs. Al Futtaim Excel scored mammoth 308 runs in 25 overs. Players' XI restricted Maklai CC to 190 and won by 6 wickets.
