Former India coach and captain Rahul Dravid made headlines on Saturday when he padded with his son Anvay to play in a KSCA third Division (Group 1) match for the Nassur Memorial Shield in Bengaluru.

Playing for Vijaya Cricket Club, 52-year-old Dravid came in to bat at No 6 but managed to just add 10 runs but Anvay scored a fine 58 off 60 balls including eight boundaries to help their club amass 345 for seven against against Young Lions Club.

Swapnil was the top run-getter for the club with a 50-ball 107 with 12 fours and four sixes.

Anvay is a wicketkeeper-batter, while Samit, the elder son of Dravid, is a pace-bowling all-rounder.

Impressive performances

Anvay came up with some impressive performances at the 2023-24 Vijay Merchant Trophy, where he was the highest run-scorer for his state. He registered 357 runs in five matches scoring four half-centuries. He also top-scored in the U-14 state league, while representing Vijaya Cricket Club.

His elder brother, Samit, has represented Karnataka in age-group tournaments. Last year, he was included in the India U-19 squad for a series vs Australia U-19 at home. But he missed out due to the knee injury. In the Cooch Behar Trophy last year, he scored 362 runs and scalped 16 wickets in eight matches in a title-winning campaign.

Meanwhile, Dravid stepped down as India’s head coach after the successful T20 World Cup campaign, due to family commitments.

He has signed with Rajasthan Royals as head coach on a multi-year contract. Other than the T20 World Cup title, he also oversaw India top the Test, ODI and T20I rankings, and also a runners-up finish at the ODI World Cup.
