Transfer gossip: Manchester City determined to land Lionel Messi from Barcelona

Manchester City will let nothing stand in their way to finally secure the services of Lionel Messi in the summer, when he will leave Barcelona a free agent. Pep Guardiola has now signed a new two-year extension to commit to the club and Messi said he would only move to the Etihad if Guardiola was in charge.

Manchester United face a fight from European heavyweights if they are to secure the services of young Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga as Paris St-Germain and Real Madrid are also interested.

Injury-ravaged Liverpool have been given hope that key defender Virgil van Dijk may return to action this season as the Dutchman has begun his recuperation training following surgery on his knee. Van Dijk was injured last month in a clash with Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
