Look! Teenager Fernandez stuns Kerber to reach US Open quarters

Unseeded 18-year-old Leylah Fernandez of Canada serves against 3-time Grand Slam singles champion Angelique Kerber of Germany during the Women’s Singles round of 16 match on Day Seven at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City.

Known as one of the best defenders in the women's game, Kerber's energy started to fade under the relentless pressure from Fernandez.

Fernandez went on to upset the No. 16 seed Kerber 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2 and reach the US Open quarterfinals

33-year-old Kerber got to the Wimbledon semis in July but found the going tough against her younger opponent. “She can go really far in the next few years,” she said of Fernandez.

Fernandez showed her fearlessness against Kerber by hitting 45 winners and showing total composure to battle her way into the last eight.

Fernandez was given a standing ovation by a full crowd on Louis Armstrong Stadium.

All smiles! During her interview after her win, Fernandez said, "I was just glad I was having fun on the court. I have been working hard since the day I started playing tennis and the day I set my mind to being a professional."
