The Latvian 24-year-old overcame Petra Kvitova in three sets in a see-saw battle that went all the way to a deciding tiebreak

Two-time Wimbledon champion Kvitova had her chances to take the match - serving for victory in the second and third sets - but could not capitalise

And world No. 25 Ostapenko prevailed 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (11-9) in two hours and 39 minutes

Kvitova took the first set - rallying from 3-0 down and was in command in the second

But Ostapenko dug deep to turn things around, even saving match point in the tiebreak before seeing out the epic clash

Veronika Kudermetova also advanced as she defeated Switzerland's Jil Teichmann

Again the match went all the way after Teichmann fought back to level at one set all

But Kudermetova held on for a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 victory

Ostapenko will now face Simona Halep, after the Romanian defeated Arab star Ons Jabeur in straight sets

Try as she did, Tunisian eighth seed Jabeur could not break down the Halep game and lost 6-4, 6-3
