High-flying Delhi Capitals took on rejuvenated Kings XI Punjab in Dubai for their Indian Premier League clash on Tuesday evening.

Delhi won the toss and were soon flying as Shikhar Dhawan llooked like a man on a mission.

There was a slight early blip as Prithvi Shaw fell for seven runs.

But there was no stopping Dhawan as he smashed an unbeaten 106 off 61 balls, including 12 fours and three sixes.

Dhawan was certainly all smiles as Delhi looked to be cruising to a big total. A spirited Punjab fightback with the ball managed to limit their opponents to 164/5.

Top-scoring KL Rahul opened the chase for Punjab with Mayank Agarwal.

But - for once - the Punjab skipper fell early, with only 15 on the board.

Chris Gayle chipped in with 29 before he was bowled by Ravi Ashwin. Agarwal was also run out for only five runs, but the required run rate meant it would be an intriguing chase.

Punjab had to regroup having lost the top of the order as Glenn Maxwell and Nicholas Pooran took up the chase.

Pooran grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck with a brilliant 53 off 28 balls as Maxwell took them to the brink of victory with 32 off 24 balls. But they still needed to close out the match.

But Punjab finally got over the line as James Neesham smashed a six in the last ball of the penultimate over for a five-wicket win over Delhi and two more vital points.
