Recently, Gulf News reader and photography enthusiast Hamza Bensaid who has been living in Dubai for 15 years, decided to visit Deira, a part of Dubai, which he does not visit often.

He spent a weekend touring Deira on an electric scooter to try and capture some photos of life in this part of the Emirate.

Bensaid said: "It completely changed how I view this part of the city. First people in Deira are warm, welcoming and you feel they are alive as everyone interacts with you. I met an Indian fisherman, an Iranian tourist, an Algerian resident and many more people."

He visited the newly developed Shindaga bridge. "The architecture is out of this world," he said.

He added: "From Al Seef to the views of Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Frame ... everything is just stunning!"

Bensaid captured this photo of the people crossing the Deira creek on an abra. Abras are traditional wooden boats which cross Dubai Creek. It is the cheapest, quickest, and most authentic way of sailing between Deira and Bur Dubai.

He also shared this picture of dhows and Dubai's skyline that shows the old and new Dubai districts in one frame.

This is the oldest landmark in Deira, the Dubai Clocktower roundabout. The roundabout provides access to the Al Maktoum Bridge, the first land crossing constructed between Deira and Bur Dubai.

He also captured a time lapse of cars moving on road at night and their reflection created a creative visual.

Bensaid said: "I would like to dedicate these photos to my daughter Aya who is 18 months as she is my biggest source of inspiration."
