Pictures: Different stages of Dubai's Museum of the Future

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, posted on his social media accounts on 3 rd Febrarry Thursday announcing the opening of the iconic Museum of the Future to the world on 22/02/2022. Sheikh Mohammed posted a couple of aerial shots of Museum of the Future: One, rising above the skyline of Sheikh Zayed Road, with the equally iconic Emirates Tower and the rising sun in the background; and another stunning photo showing the futuristic museum rising above a mist of low-lying clouds.

He captioned his post: “Brothers and sisters... The most beautiful building on Earth in the UAE will launch to the world on February 22, 2022...”

Opening to the public on February 22, the striking 78-metre-high structure has seven floors that focus on topics such as space travel and living, climate change and ecology, health, wellness and spirituality.

As well as providing a permanent home for the many innovations, the Museum of the Future claims to work to stimulate and incubate solutions to the challenges of future cities. It will bring together researchers, designers, inventors and financiers under one roof. The Museum will be located in the Emirates Towers area near Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai. The Museum of the Future further aims to strengthen Dubai's position in the coming few years as a global hub for future and emerging technologies, and supports the execution of the emirate's strategic plans and initiatives.

The creation of the museum reflects Sheikh Mohammed's vision that a new approach is required for fast-moving, dynamic, and uncertain times to create long-lasting innovations that benefit both organisations and society. Design-led and future-orientated experimentation is an increasingly essential capability for governments and the private sector. It is founded on the concept that the best way to create these innovations is through forward-looking, design-led technology, experimentation and prototyping—Picture taken in October 2018.

The museum will hold scientific conferences and offer advanced courses and specialised workshops on design and innovation covering scientific developments, trends and techniques. It will contribute enormously to education by developing new curricula and novel approaches to design, innovation and entrepreneurship for students all over the world, in collaboration with the brightest and most experienced experts. The unconventional design and construction methods being used to complete the project is already being seen as a model of the future of technology in building design, even if there is still a long way to go before the museum will open its doors to the public.

The design demonstrates the latest in green technology and eco-friendly architecture. It is solar-powered and also includes charging points for electric cars. The building’s windows, waterproofing and insulation are one complete system.
