Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Friday opened the four new Metro stations- Jebel Ali, The Gardens, Discovery Gardens and Al Furjan, with the first journey departing from Jebel Ali at 10am. These new additions are part of the RTA’s Route 2020 Metro extension and all commuters were quite excited about the opening, which adds to Dubai’s amazing public transport system. Before the opening of Route 2020, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) gave the media a tour of the stations, including the iconic Expo 2020 station. Each station has a distinct interior design taking the elements of nature, including earth, air fire and water.

Passengers using the Dubai metro route 2020 which started its operations with opening of three new stations on 01 January 2021. “The selection of stations for operation on January 1 was based on several perimeters, including the density of population nearby the station, anticipated number of riders, commercial activities in the area served by the stations, and the link with other public transit means at each station,” Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, RTA Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors,” said earlier.

Jebel Ali station (formerly Nakheel Harbour & Tower) is the connecting station between red line and expo 2020 line. The Route 2020 track extends 15km (11.8km of elevated track and 3.2km of underground track) and links seven stations. It features one interchange station with the Red Line, an iconic station at EXPO 2020 site, three elevated stations and two underground stations.

The Gardens is another popular station of Route 2020. Hence, it will take only a few minutes to get on the Red Line from the station. It has the capacity to serve around 125,000 riders per day and includes two platforms.

Studies also revealed that Expo Station is expected to witness 35,000 visitors per day during weekdays, and 47,000 visitors per day during weekends.
