Piers Morgan has apparently cancelled himself after another controversial statement. He was one of the first to weigh in on television about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey where they spoke about racism in the royal ranks and depression. Morgan said he did not believe Meghan’s claim of contemplating suicide and getting no help from Buckingham Palace.

When his co-star called him out for his insensitive comments, Morgan stormed off the sets of ‘GMB’, going on to reportedly quit. "Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain," the network said in a statement. Who is Piers Morgan? Viewers might remember him as a judge on 'America's Got Talent', or his hosting of the CNN show 'Piers Morgan Live', which ended in 2014. He also won the first season of 'The Celebrity Apprentice', in 2008, when he was crowned Best Business Brain by Donald Trump.

The reason why Morgan left the 'GMB' set on Tuesday morning was because he clashed with presenter Alex Beresford over the royal interview. He has always been a very vocal critic of Meghan Markle, and expressed himself very openly on the show, the day after the interview aired in the UK. He called Markle and Prince Harry's interview Winfrey a "two-hour trash-a-thon" of the royal family. When Alex Beresford stood by Meghan, Morgan swiftly exited the conversation.

What happened next? Britain's media regulator has launched a probe into Monday's episode of the programme after receiving complaints about comments made by Morgan in the wake of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan's interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Celebrities reacted to the now viral event of Morgan storming out of 'GMB', following being asked about controversial remarks about Meghan Markle. British actress Jameela Jamil (pictured), who has long been a mental health advocate, wrote on Twitter about her own experience of verbal abuse by Morgan. “I almost killed myself a year ago because of Piers Morgan’s campaign of lies and hatred against me last February. I’m glad I’m still alive today for many reasons.”

Actress and presenter Denise Welch simply posted: “Piers Morgan. That’s a wrap.”

Former Star Trek actor George Takei said: “Piers Morgan apparently has cancelled himself. Cancel culture!"

There were a few celebs who came to Morgan's defense. One of them was Sharon Osbourne, who said on Twitter: "People forget that you’re paid for your opinion and that you’re just speaking your truth."

Krishnan Guru-Murthy from Channel 4 had a more balanced approach to the situation. “For all you think he gets wrong (which are matters of opinion) few will be more pleased to see @piersmorgan go than ministers who won’t face him anymore. GMB always lost the ratings war to BBC but was talked about more. Murdoch or GB News will bite his hand off,” he tweeted.
