A CALL FOR HUMANITY IN THE FACE OF GAZA TRAGEDY: In the heart-wrenching conflict in the Gaza Strip, the toll on innocent lives, especially women and children, demands urgent global reflection. The reported casualties underscore a precarious compromise of the fundamental principles of distinction and proportionality. The announced truce offers a glimmer of hope, with a deal to release hostages and additional aid entering Gaza—a commendable step forward. However, the crucial need remains to extend the truce, allowing essential humanitarian relief to reach those in desperate need. The Security Council must heed the UAE Ambassador to the UN Lana Nusseibeh's recent call to break free from paralysis, ensuring humanitarian access to Gaza. As the world grapples with this complex conflict, every child saved is a testament to the significance of the truce, emphasising the pressing need for a definitive end to the crisis.
