Traffic prosecutors in Dubai are stepping up their efforts to ensure those who commit hit-and-run offences on the roads will face severe repercussions and swift justice.

The death toll on the roads in Dubai, and across the UAE as a whole, is bordering on calamitous. Speed, inattention, faulty vehicles and bad driving habits all contribute to this sad statistic.

At all times we must remember that driving is a privilege and not a right. When we are behind the wheel, we must ensure the safety of others as a matter of legal and moral obligation.

Leaving the scene of an accident, no matter how obscure or immaterial it may seem to be, is a serious offence. Fleeing the scene after others have been injured is unforgivable.

Those who commit hit-and-run crimes should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and Dubai's traffic prosecutors deserve our full support on their efforts.
