With the advent of summer, residents of Sharjah are facing a series of rotating power cuts as Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) plans to spread the insufficient power supply evenly through the emirate.

This situation has been going on for months now without a clear indication from Sewa officials as to when it will be resolved.

With a higher demand for electricity over the summer, Sewa is failing to keep up with demand. On the face of it, proper planning and administration of growth seems to be lacking.

Residents of the emirate deserve a constant power supply as this is an essential element of living. Electricity supply is a necessity, not a luxury.

Businesses and entrepreneurs in the emirate deserve the right to be able to conduct their operations without the hassle of rotating power cuts.

Sewa needs to make every effort to resolve this situation as soon as possible. Nothing less is acceptable.
