If you’re a resident of Dubai, you should smile a little more today. According to the latest statistics from police officials in the emirate, crime has fallen again and roads are safer.

More effective policing methods and community initiatives have resulted in serious crime incidents dropping from 255 serious incidents per 100,000 residents in 2008 to a third of that rate in 2011. With 83.7 serious incidents registered per 100,000 residents, Dubai continues to be one of the safest cities in the world.

And our roads are safer too, with road fatalities falling to a quarter of the levels they were four years ago. Increased policing, road improvements, stricter enforcement, radar and greater public awareness have all contributed in cutting the death rate on our roads.

More intensive policing methods have also resulted in the apprehension of more than 23,000 wanted people, whether as suspects, for criminal or financial cases, or living in the UAE illegally.

Dubai Police deserve due credit for their work.
