Abu Dhabi is right to introduce building standards to improve insulation levels
Gulf states consume a huge amount of energy thanks to very high use of air conditioning in both homes and offices. During the summer, with the heat soaring to the high 40s, the consumption is particularly high, but what is shocking is that a lot of this expensive interior coolth is wasted as it leaks into the atmosphere. Most of this waste is through very poor insulation provided by the huge sheets of glass covering most office buildings, which is why Abu Dhabi's Department of Municipal Affairs is right to introduce tough international building standards to stop such casual waste of very expensive energy.
All over the UAE, every authority needs to take immediate action to enforce high standards of energy saving. Every small saving of energy in the workplace or home helps reduce the UAE's burden of generating new power, the demand for which gets larger every year.
