Splitting shifts during peak hours is the latest proposal to ease Dubai's traffic woes. With one million vehicles using Dubai roads from 6.30 to 8.30am, Brigadier Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, Director of Dubai Police's Traffic Department, has made a sound suggestion to implement flexible working hours at government and semi-government departments. This means work hours would be divided in such a way that employees would leave their homes at different times.

While the idea itself is promising, it is necessary to study this proposal thoroughly to ensure its success. After all, this could have a tremendous impact on the emirate's economic cycle as well as businesses in general. What's more, all people would be affected by it including schoolchildren.

Nevertheless, the proposal is a step in the right direction and has the potential to alleviate Dubai's traffic congestion and thus reduce the number of road accidents.
