The decision by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) to launch a campaign of inspecting and monitoring private and public schools is commendable.

It is built towards improving the standard of education in Dubai schools.

Despite the scepticism with which this decision has been met in some quarters, it should be seen as an opportunity to ensure that schools are following the stipulated educational regulations; that they are seeking to establish and maintain international standards; interacting with both the student and the parent when providing references on an institution's weakness and strengths.

Teachers will be the beneficiaries of this decision as their output can be both carefully gauged and managed constructively.

The volume of the curriculum coupled with the rise in the cost of living and educational expenses can be daunting for both the teacher and the student. The KHDA's role in addressing these and other issues will be welcome.
