With Dubai Airport resuming operations gradually, and other countries slowly lifting air travel restrictions, you may now be able to fly in to Dubai.

If you are an expatriate travelling to Dubai, you need an approval from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai.

Emirates airlines has issued updated guidelines on what passengers need to do when they are booking a flight back in to the UAE.

Before you fly, find out details of your booking and application approval process.

You can fill in the application form for GDRFA here: https://smart.gdrfad.gov.ae/Smart_OTCServicesPortal/ReturnPermitService.aspx

You will receive an instant response if the application is approved. If not, you can try again later.

Do not book a flight ticket unless you receive the GDRFA approval.

Make sure you have a copy of GDRFA approval email with you.

If you are stopping over at Dubai airport to travel onwards to another destination, find out what the regulations and travel eligibility are at your destination.

As online check-in is currently closed, make sure you arrive at the airport three hours before your flight departure time.

Baggage allowance - minimal carry-on baggage is currently allowed.

Hygiene - ensure you have a face mask. Gloves are recommended.

At the airport, you will pass through thermal scanners. If you are not carrying a valid PCR test, you will be required to undergo a COVID-19 test on arrival.

If you are showing symptoms of COVID-19, the test may be repeated.

You would need to fill in a health declaration form and a quarantine undertaking form as well.

Once you reach Dubai, you will undergo a PCR test at the airport and you are required to stay in quarantine until you receive the test result. If you test positive, you will need to stay in quarantine for 14 days.
