Saadgi
Lata Mangeshkar

Melody queen Lata Mangeshkar and young composer Mayuresh Pai had worked together in Antarnaad, an album featuring the poems of former Indian Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee. Now they have joined hands again in Saadgi, a compilation of modern ghazals, some of which are penned by Javed Akhtar. Through melodious tunes and mature singing, Saadgi makes its presence felt. Pai's compositions are soothing. The highlight here is Mangeshkar's return to the ghazal genre almost 17 years after Sajda (her album with Jagjit Singh). Advancing age has certainly taken away some finer musical nuances from her renditions but her ability to evoke the deeper emotions still remains intact. That's why ghazals such as Mujhe Khabar Thi, Ishq Ki Baatein, Jo Itne Kareeb Hain and Phir Kahin Door Se sound appealing.
