We asked two health nuts what they reach for when they get an attack of the munchies

What does a typical food day look like?
I try to eat plenty of foods that support my metabolism, so lots of eggs, meat, fruit, leftovers from roast dinners, well-cooked broccoli, oat cakes, butter, coconut oil, dark chocolate, dairy products, broths made with boiled bones and gelatin, grated carrots, orange juice and coffee.
What do you keep in the house for treats?
Häagen-Dazs ice cream has very little added to it. I often have it with stewed fruit and maple syrup.
If you order a takeaway, what do you have?
I am a sucker for authentic Italian pizzas and good-quality burgers. Nowhere does fries cooked in coconut oil though, so I rarely have them.
What do you look for on a menu?
Organic foods and grass-fed animal products.
What do you never eat?
Cinema popcorn as it is fried in poor-quality oils.
If you are eating out, what do you order?
I am a big fan of steak and crab and I love a good dessert, or a cheese board. I opt for organic food and grass-fed animals when I can.
What ‘unhealthy’ foods are actually OK?
Eggs are a great food source but the cholesterol myth has caused people to shy away from them.
The same applies to coconut oil and ghee as the vegetable oil companies did a great job of convincing us that saturated fat is bad for you.
What unhealthy treats do you succumb to?
It’d have to be some good-quality crisps. Cronuts are pretty special too!
Eggs with spinach, oats with mixed berries and Spanish omelette.
What food items do you eat every day?
Oats, broccoli and chicken or fish.
What do you keep in the house for treats?
Rachel’s Organic Rice Pudding and freshly ground coconut.
Shish tawook from Karam Beirut.
What takeaway would you never order?
Fried chicken; it’s way too processed. It’s so genetically modified (not to mention the conditions in which the animals are reared). The fact that it’s disputable whether the meat can be categorised as chicken is scary!
What do you order when you eat out?
I opt for organic vegetables and grass-fed meats. Natural ingredients are key for me.
If you are eating out, what do you avoid?
Foods that are high-salt, high-sugar, deep-fried or cooked with a lot of cream or oil.
What foods do people think are healthy but in fact are not?
Breakfast cereals and so-called healthy cereal bars. They are often laden with sugar and colourings and their labels are often misleading... especially when they are being marketed to children, or at people who are trying to lose weight.
I’m partial to the odd shawarma!
