I was on one of my regular dial-in shows when the traffic jamline blinker went off. On answering the call I heard the familiar voice from our regular traffic jam buster. Now this usually chirpy soul responded meekly, "Sir, nothing jam busting today just that I'm confidence busted." I was all ears as he narrated his story.

Seems he had an important meet lined up and hence had decided to get himself a smashing haircut to impress his client. But unfortunately the barber had a tiff with his girlfriend and his hair became a victim of his anger. He now looked like a cross between Mr. Bean and Amrish Puri. I empathised and consoled him with the fact that it's a home harvest and will cultivate soon.

This made me wonder as to how one wrong action or mismatch can enable things to not go the way you planned for an entire day or more...

Can you still be as bright and perky as you normally are when your favourite tie just got stained by your coffee? Does the self-made confident man in you crumble to a mismatched trouser or do you put your guard down and surrender to a bad hair day?

Curious to know more about this quirky correlation of confidence with the way you look, I opened the interactive radio lines. And the results were quite amusing, as the listeners responded with their day dampeners. Everything from awful dressing to a wrong lip shade, a pimpled cheek to wobbly heels, to even a taxi driver reasoning his lack of confidence for an improper twirl of his moustache. Serious stuff this!

Now in the aftermath of all this on-air interaction I felt remorseful and also a bit funny as I delivered my parting shot of the day – "Confidence comes from the deeds you do and not from your looks" I proclaimed as I signed off.

That day I left the studio early not because of any grief but
because I had mistakenly worn my nephew's polka-dotted underpants and have been low on buoyancy since then.
