Gulf News reader Ramaprasad M. Srinivasamurthy took these photographs along Deira Creek in Dubai.
He said: ‘I go to the Creek often because I like taking pictures of birds. But, the photographs show the large amount of litter in the area — I often see pesticides in the water, which is dangerous for marine life and humans alike. A lot of people who use the dhows throw litter in the Creek."
"They need to be educated along with tourists who come to the area. For them, plastic bags have no consequences — they throw it wherever they want. On some occasions, I have picked up the very same plastic bag in front of them and thrown it in the dustbin. Authorities need to put up boards to educate tourists and be especially strict with people who do not follow rules," he said.
