Diesel-powered X6 M50d will be the highlight when it debuts in Geneva

The stilted monstrosity with which BMW managed to shock the better part of the motoring world has got an update. Munich has officially revealed the 2013 model year version of what it thinks is the world’s first SAV, or Sports Activity Vehicle, the X6.
If you’re still struggling to spot the in the ‘new’ model, don’t worry. The changes, or rather updates, are subtle like the new larger kidney grilles, matte-finish surrounds for the fog lights that are now positioned higher and farther apart and LED adaptive headlights that come as an option instead of the standard Xenon units. LED taillights, together with a new range of exterior and interior colours as well as special 20in Y-spoke alloys complete the styling update.
While the petrol lumps on offer remain the same, the big news about the new X6 is the X6 M50d that’s part of the new M-Performance series and powered by a 381bhp in-line six-cylinder oil burner. This triple-turbocharged powerhouse puts out 740Nm of torque and hurtles the behemoth from standstill to 100kph in just 5.3sec. The 2013 X6 range will debut at the Geneva motor show in March.
