Ports conduct 1m residency transactions

Most of them dealt with visiting sailors, tourists and travellers, top Dubai official says

Dubai: More than a million transactions were done at the seaports' section of Dubai residency department last year, according to a senior Ministry of Interior official.

Major General Mohammad Ahmad Al Merri, Director General of Dubai General Directorate for Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) said most of the transactions were conducted for tourists, sailors and travellers. He has urged the residency staff at the seaport to provide the best services to the public and tourists.

During his recent tour to the seaports, Major General Al Merri interacted with passengers from a cruise ship, who were visiting Dubai, at the tourism building.

"We are working under the directions of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who urged us to be excellent in our work," he said.

"We are also working as per the directions of Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and who advised us to put all efforts in our performance," he said.

On his tour to the seaports, Major General Al Merri was accompanied by Colonel Awad Mohammad Aym, Assistant Director-General for human and financial resources, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Al Hammadi, Assistant Director-General of the ports sector and other officials.
