Dubai: Kickstarting the World Food Day, Dubai Municipality launched the second branch of the UAE Food Bank on Monday.

Hussain Nasser Lootah, director general of Dubai Municipality, inaugurated the Food Bank branch located next to the Canadian University in Al Bada district.

Lootah also signed agreements with 16 entities — including food businesses and charity groups which will be associated with the Food Bank.

The civic body had opened the first branch of the UAE Food Bank in Al Quoz in April.

An initiative launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the UAE Food Bank aims to cut food wastage and feed the needy by donating surplus from food businesses to the disadvantaged members of the society through approved charity groups.
