Dubai: A Dh3 million donation has been added to the “Dress one million needy children campaign” to clothe at least 75,000 needy children around the world, a week before the campaign ends.

The campaign was launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in order to collect donations this Ramadan to clothe one million needy children around the world. The 19-day campaign is expected to conclude on the 19th day of Ramadan (July 28). To clothe one child costs Dh40.

Shaikha Alia Bint Khalifa Bin Saeed Al Maktoum has donated Dh1 million to clothe 25,000 needy children. Lulu Hypermarket has also contributed Dh1 million. Al Ansari Exchange gave Dh1 million as well.

“Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s initiative shows how Emiratis are people of charity and goodwill, inspired by their fathers and ancestors and guided by the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan to ensure growth and prosperity of the community. We are proud of the efforts of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad who is renowned for his humanitarian and charitable initiatives, such as his latest humanitarian campaign reflecting the true spirit of the holy month of Ramadan,” Mohammad Ali Al Ansari, Chairman and Managing Director, Al Ansari Exchange, said.

“Through our donation we hope to contribute in some way in providing clothing to the needy children who face harsh living conditions across the world,” Al Ansari added.

With the campaign surpassing the halfway target of Dh20 million for 500,000 children, Emirates Red Crescent has begun distributing pieces of clothing to needy children in Africa, Europe and Middle East.

The distribution started in Dar es Salaam in Tanzania followed by the city of Zanzibar.

Clothes were also distributed in several stages in Yemen, where the campaign aims to distribute at least 100,000 pieces of clothing.

A total of 10,000 pieces of clothing were distributed to needy children in different cities in Bosnia.

The second stage of distribution was held in Jordan where clothes were given to Syrian children in the UAE-funded refugee camp.

Some 50,000 clothes were also given to Syrian and Palestinian children in Lebanon.
