The plot Adapted from the best-selling book, I Don't Know How She Does It follows the jam-packed life of career-focused Kate Reddy (Parker), an executive at a Boston-based finance management firm, who also moonlights as a devoted mother to two kids, and loving wife to her out-of-work husband, Richard (Kinnear).
And despite the many challenges being a working mother throws up, Kate is generally able to juggle her two worlds with the help of her best friend, single mother, Allison (Hendricks), who is attempting her own work/life balance. But the ‘having it all' myth is challenged straight off the bat as Kate, returning from a business trip, suffers a crisis of conscience over buying a shop-bought pie (oh, the humanity!) for her daughter's cake sale because she can't compete with the offerings of stay-at-home-mummies, establishing herself - and her own high standards - as her own worst enemy. And her life descends further into chaos when her career thrives after she secures a huge deal with the suave Jack Abelhammer (Brosnan), the boss of her firm's New York office, meaning Kate has to travel between cities on a regular basis, pushing her and her marriage to breaking point. And just when the couple can take on no more responsibility, Richard receives a job offer he simply cannot refuse...
