The Constellation Ballroom serves up an iftar that feeds your soul
Ramadan is a time for reflection. And whether you’re ending your fast as a process of reaffirming your faith or enjoying your evening meal, The Address Dubai Marina serves up an iftar spread that feeds your soul.
From tasty dates and seasonal juices, to salads, hot and cold mezze, main dishes and desserts, you’re spoiled for choice. Along with the ubiquitous fare, the chefs present a number of non-traditional options, which is perfect if you’re heading for iftar fatigue.
I started with lentil soup, which was rich in flavour and an indication of what was to follow — my companions and I couldn’t fault even one item on a spread that must be among the largest in the city. The salads were fresh and zesty and featured Middle Eastern favourites among Western staples. The bread table had the usual rolls and flatbreads, but there was also saj station for made-to-order items, where the cheese and zataar variety proved popular. There was also a nod to street food with shawarmas.
Among the mains, which also included Asian dishes and sushi, gently spiced grilled chicken cubes and succulent roast beef were a hit. Having gotten used to mixed grills with charcoaled lamb, we were pleasantly surprised with the juicy lamb chops presented here.
For dessert, my companions and I shared bites of some of the cakes, mousses, brulees and sugared balls to leave space for another unusual option – fresh waffles. Served with your choice of ice cream and sorbet, you can top it off with a myriad of sprinkles, jams, sauces and nuts for a sweet ending that hits the spot.
A staid affair this isn’t. And with something for everyone, it’s easy to see why this iftar is as popular as it is.
Iftar is served in on of the ball rooms, and although the 300-plus venue is generally sold out, there’s enough room for everyone to spread out. Tables are arranged for small and larger groups, with plenty of space to move around.
