Asia's songbird Regine Velasquez and singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid will be serenading their fans in the UAE next month. They'll bring their unique brand of music and entertainment in the romantic musical concert apptly dubbed The Songbird and the Songwriter.

 The songbird

Born Regina Encarnacion Ansong Velasquez on April 22, 1970, in Manila, Velasquez rose from a modest, loving family to become one of the most popular Filipino singers in the country.

At an early age, Velasquez's parents recognised that she was a gifted singer and helped her participate in various local and national singing contests in the Philippines. Her family moved from Manila to Leyte so that Regine could receive professional training. One of the most important victories in Velasquez's life was the Bagong Kampeon (New Champion) competition, which launched her career in the entertainment industry.

She also earned the moniker Asia's Songbird after winning the 1989 Asia Pacific Singing Contest in Hong Kong. Reaching great heights in music, Velasquez has collaborated with several artists such as Paul Anka, David Hasselhoff, 98 Degrees, Brian McKnight, Mandy Moore, Ronan Keating, Stephen Bishop, Jim Brickman, Peabo Bryson, Jeffrey Osborne and many others.

The songwriter

Herminio Alcasid, Jr popularly known as Ogie Alcasid, on the other hand, was thrust into stardom with the success of his self-titled debut album in 1989.

The album reached gold status, while his debut single Nandito Ako was named Song of the Year by a local radio station.

He has since released 18 albums, including four greatest hits, achieving a total of five gold records, three platinum records and three double platinum records.

Born on August 27, 1967 in Lucena City, Quezon, Philippines, Alcasid songs often tell intimate stories of ordinary folks.

His songs have become the anthems of people battered by emotional storms, as they have positive messages. Some of the all-time favourite songs he composed include Kailangan Kita, Ikaw ang Aking Pangarap, Wag Ka Lang Mawawala, Panginoon and I Will Be Here.

Furthermore, fans can look forward to be entertained by the Philippines' hottest couple on television — Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera. Plus, Rico J. Puno will join in to make the evening an event to remember. So keep your cameras charged and don't miss the fun!
